Independent
An engineer with nothing to sell you
Some firms that assess foundations also sell the repair. We only inspect, diagnose, design and certify, so the advice is about your building, not a job.
If no repair is needed, our report says so. If one is, we design it and any licensed builder can build it.
Built for Hobart's ground
Why Hobart buildings crack, slide and settle
Clay soils, landslip bands, steep blocks and old masonry all change what a job needs. These are the local conditions we design for.
Reactive clays
Clays weathered from dolerite are documented as expansive in Hobart, with Mineral Resources Tasmania reports on houses in Lindisfarne, Lenah Valley and Taroona.
Landslip bands
The Landslip Hazard Code maps low, medium, medium-active and high bands. Low-risk work in a band becomes notifiable, and Rosetta and Taroona are documented landslide areas.
Heritage homes
Works to a place on the Tasmanian Heritage Register need Heritage Council approval, and structural changes need drawings of the existing condition.
Steep blocks
A retaining wall over 1.2 m, or over 0.5 m near a boundary, is no longer low-risk work. Up to 1.8 m it needs a licensed builder and an engineer's design.
